The Royal Ballet at its bestWhat a wonderful day at The Royal Opera House London.
The only disapointment, Cojocaru as Titania, she has had a lot of media coverage, but really does not live up to it, she was a weak Titania, the rest of the cast in the matinee were very good indeed, Sara Wildor in the eveneng performance shone as Titania, she is superb in this role, and Acosta as Oberon, perfect.
Monotones was beautifully presented in both shows, also the Manon pas de dexu, danced by Benjamin and Kobborg, what a wonderful partnership thet are.
Inaki Urlezaga and Miyake Yoshida, stunning in the grand Don Q pas, Rojo and Acosta in the afternoon performance of Don Q good, but did not have the fire of the evening couple.
The Awakening pas from The Beauty, danced well in the matnee but not so in the evening
but again Cojucara let Putrov down,he was pure, she not
The icing on the cake Murial Valtat what a performance as Natalia in Month in the Country, heart breaking so beautifully danced, her acting marvellous, to many she was the star of the day,
Sylvie Guillem in the evening was not a wonderful Natalia, I thought at times she was confused about which Ashton she was dancing, Marguarite, or Month, Johnathan Cope as usual very good, although I found Petrov, the better Beliaev much more believable.
Having The Queen, Queen Mother and Princess Margaret in the house, made it all the more pleasurable, what a buzz for he artists, A grand finale for Anthony Dowell, a wonderfull end to a extremely good season of dance by the Royal Ballet.
Long may this continue.
