Franca's 'passion and commitment' to be feted

Friends will honour National Ballet founder at 80th birthday bash

by Karina Roman for The Ottawa Citizen

Quote:
When Celia Franca, founder of the National Ballet of Canada and co-founder of Canada's National Ballet School, turns 80 next month, she'll have one large and cultural birthday bash.

Miss Franca, currently co-artistic director of the School of Dance in Ottawa, has her birthday June 25, and in honour of the big day friends and colleagues are planning a special observance the next day.

'Miss Franca,' still determined at 80

When National Ballet founder Celia Franca celebrates her 80th birthday with a dance gala at the National Arts Centre on June 26, expect the 3,000-seat theatre to be full of dancers whose careers have been touched by "Miss Franca" -- as even professional dancers refer to her.
