two articles about different casts in Sir Peter Wright's version of Giselle, staged originally for NB of C in 1969/70 (!):
a review of hodgkinson and antonijevic, and an article about the debut of first soloist sonia rodriguez, can be found on the globe and mail's site at http://theglobeandmail.com/
type ballet in the 7-day search box ane they'll come up...hopefully!
the rodriguez article has a few good paragraphs from magdalena popa on coaching for a principal role...makes an interesting contribution to thoughts on this subject raised by the anne derieux thread.

[This message has been edited by grace (edited May 26, 2000).]

Greta was fantastic as Giselle. She bourréed her way right into my heart! Unfortunately her pairing with Aleksandar Antonijevic did not live up to their performance in Swan Lake. Maybe it’s me but I think Antonijevic works much better with Kimberly Glasco.
There were actually 30 empty double letter seats for opening night of Giselle. The subscription to the double letter seats can only be purchased by those who give a large amount to the ballet. Why they would not show up for Greta Hodgkinson boggles the mind. With all apologies to Kimberly Glasco, Hodgkinson is their best dancer. I’m afraid she’s too good to remain with the NBoC for much longer. I’m sure some other company will make an offer to her.
As I've written before, Greta Hodgkinson is an alabaster bathing beauty!

------------------
Michael Goldbarth
