The LA Times feature on Irina and Maxim is excellent. They are really a lovely couple, both onstage and offstage. I first met them a year ago in Paris during the ABT season, and in Oct. And I had the pleasure of renewing my acquaintance with them when the ABT toured Hong Kong. I greatly enjoyed their Don Q.

I was hoping to see the married couple dance in the lead but alas, Maxim got injured and was replaced by Carlos Molina, who did a wonderful job for a corps member. However, this "Cinderella" has the typical Ben Stevenson trademark pdd, i.e. almost awkward lifts and partnering sequences that do actually look awkward when performed by dancers without the proper experience or rehearsal. It showed somewhat that Molina was not entirely ready.<P>I also wish there were more dancing. There just simply isn't enough dancing in this ballet. There was lots of comedy though that thrilled the Orange County audience.<P>Basheva tells me she has already written a review... but we'll have to let her get home first. <P>But I will say one thing: the Orange County Performing Arts Center (OCPAC) is simply a splendid place to watch dance. I am very happy that even more big name companies will be coming to this theater. Kudos to the staff at OCPAC!
