Thanks for finding the Eastside Journal preview, Dave. Since I don't live on the eastside, they are a bit off my radar screen. Will the PNB website have cast lists posted sometime before opening? Thanks again for your contributions here.

If PNB doesn't have cast lists posted on the website soon I'll post them here.

I tried for a direct URL to the Times feature article as well, and have been defeated all day long. The article can be accessed via the Seattle Times main site: www.seattletimes.com -- it appeared on Sunday, 1/28/01 in the arts section and is authored by Melinda Bargreen (longtime music critic). It appears that there is (again) no regularly assigned dance critic at the Times....

Thanks very much for the cast listing, Dave! (It's still not up on the PNB website!)

No, and I'm hoping I won't get in trouble for posting it.

From the Seattle Post-Intelligencer:

quote:
Sergeyev, the Russian ballet-master at the Maryinsky Theater, revived the ballet for Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes in London in 1921 and subsequently other companies, including the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and Sadler's Wells Ballet (now the Royal Ballet) in England.

In the West, we certainly had a great benefit from Sergeyev by bringing us 20 odd classic ballets. However, i think there was always some controversy about this as he brought (ie strolled off with) his notation books to aid his setting of the ballets. His employers were not pleased by this, just as ours would not be pleased if we took our work with us when we left a company.
If he hadn't come with the books, we might not have had a number of the classics until the defectors of the 60s. So perhaps we'll let him off with a caution.

I have updated my earlier post with a few changes to this week's casting and added next week's.
