Here's a pre-performance article on the upcoming shows this weekend.
http://www.herald.com/content/today/entertainment/arts/digdocs/031050.htm

Image
Co-AD David Palmer, formerly of SF Ballet

I immediately liked Brenda Krebs' article from its opening paragraphs:

quote:
The Maximum Dance Company went out on a limb last year by doubling its budget and offering its dancers year-round contracts. Whether that financial and artistic commitment was worth it should be visible when the company opens its 2000-01 season Friday night at the Coconut Grove Playhouse.
``Before we always had to live moment to moment,'' said Artistic Director David Palmer. ``Now we can really look forward and plan two and three years into the future.''

This sounds like a company that believes in what it's doing.

Here's another preview article. I think you can get a flavour of the ADs in this piece.
Tonight is opening night and for the first time in three years, we have no hurricance staring us in the face to hurt ticket sales.
http://www.miaminewtimes.com/issues/2000-09-21/nightday2.html

The reviews are not out yet, but I am REAL confident. The first post show article is not a positive one, but has nothing to do with the performance. Maximum can't seem to have success without the forces of nature keeping us humble.
Read for yourself!
http://www.herald.com/content/today/entertainment/arts/digdocs/015071.htm

Oh man! This is horrible. Please tell Marielena and Yanis that I'm sorry this happened to them.

Now I'm really ticked! Both the reviews are out and are some of the best we've ever received ... however neither the Miami Herald nor the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel include them on their internet versions.
For example, the opening sentence from the Herald's Jordan Levein, "The opening performance of Maximum Dance Company's fourth season last weekend at the Coconut Grove Playhouse may have been the troupe's best concert ever."
Guillermo Perez starts his piece "Showing how fanfare can signal admirable endeavors, Maximum Dance Company opened its season Friday at the Coconut Grove Playhouse on a supreme high note. The trio of contemporay pieces that made up the bulk of the program had vvaried flair and a wealth of choreography performed with total commitment."
I may type them in myself, but not this minute. Suffice it to say, absent the breakin, we are all pretty stoked down here.

Shag, congratulations! Wish I had been there!
BTW, I've noticed that the Miami papers are somewhat slow in getting articles online. You may want to try again tomorrow.

Well done to everyone involved. Do hope that those reviews turn up.
