This is occupying the seasonal spot at the Royal Festival Hall. We Londoners know next to nothing about the Company or the piece. Can anyone in the US of A help us out?

I know I'm the Maximum Dance elf, but one of our dancers is guesting with Atlanta for the tour, Margorie Hardwick. She formerly danced with Atlanta, but left to have a baby with fellow Max dancer, Greg Shrammel. Cristine Winkler has guested with us and we have done some of AD McFall's choreography.

My understanding is that Atlanta is definitely a solid regional company in the vein of Boston and perhaps Ballet West, below SFB, PNB and Houston and equal to Miami City, depending of course on your interest in Balanchine. Strong financial support and good structure, with some nice dancers.

Here is the Atlanta Ballet website:

Has anyone seen the Atlanta 'Dracula'? Opinions here are mixed about the Northern Ballet Theatre/Atlanta production, but I have to say that I thought it worked very well.

Has there been much discussion about Atlanta's switch from Balanchine to dance drama?

Atlanta Ballet's 'Peter Pan' has been well received in London with one good review and one 'good in parts' review in the national press. Here are the URls to the two reviews.

Judith Mackrell in 'The Guardian': www.newsunlimited.co.uk/reviews/story/0,3604,117465,00.html

Donald Hutera in 'The Times', to his surprise, enjoyed it a lot. The link to his review is now broken.

One should also recognize that Atlanta did not take anywhere near their full company as SFB did b/c they also had Nutcracker going in Atlanta at the same time.

Yeow! Is it possible for a company to be both on tour and at home for The Nutcracker? Amazing! Must be a big company.
