Word has it that this was quite a big event in Havana. Talk to anyone who studied under Fernando Alonso, including some of the finest dancers in the world today, and you will hear only the highest praise for him. He is noted for his scientific approach to teaching ballet, analyzing every element of, for example, Vaganova technique in terms of the "Cuban" body, and turning it into what is basically "Cubanova" technique. I recently interviewed an internationally-recognized dancer who described in some detail to me, how when Mr. Alonso teaches his students to turn, he also includes a physics lesson on centrifugal force. His students end up bonding to ballet, not only artistically, but scientifically and intellectually, as well. Viva Fernando Alonso!
