 Post subject: Annual Promotions at South African Ballet Theatre

The South African Ballet Theatre’s Artistic Director, Ms Karen Beukes, has announced the promotion of the following SABT dancers:

Ms Sarah King is now ranked as a Senior Soloist while Ms Shannon Glover, Ms Gwen Barry and Mr Dion Page have all been promoted from Senior Corps de Ballet to Soloist ranking.

Ms Tammy Higgins and Ms Sanmarie Kreuzhuber have both been promoted from the Corps de Ballet to the Senior Corps de Ballet.

Ms Nicole Ferreira and Ms Claire Spector both successfully completed the SA Ballet Theatre’s Graduate programme in 2007 and have been accepted into the Company as members of the Corps de Ballet.

These promotions came into effect on January 21st when the Company resumed its rehearsals.

Several new appointments have also been made. They are Mr Alexei Ilin as Ballet Master. Mr Ilin joins the SA Ballet Theatre’s Artistic staff and will be working closely with the Team on the upcoming season of The Sleeping Beauty which opens on March 29th at The Johannesburg Civic Theatre.

Mr Jorge Humberto Montero, who hails from Mexico , will be joining the Company at the end of the month as a Soloist. Mr Tshego Matladi and Philip Davel (a recent graduate of The Tshwane University of Technology) are two new Company members joining the SA Ballet Theater on short- term contracts.

The following dancers have resigned from SA Ballet Theatre effective December 1st 2007:

Nicole McCreedy(Senior Corps de Ballet), Ms Lorna Maseko(Soloist) and Mr Andile Ndlovu (Senior Corps de Ballet).

Ms Beukes congratulated the dancers who received promotions and thanked the entire Company for its ongoing commitment to keeping the glamour, escapism and magic of classical ballet alive in South Africa .

The SA Ballet Theatre will announce casting for the 2008 season of The Sleeping Beauty (accompanied by the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra, due to the partial sponsorship of Rand Merchant Bank) in March. Founded in 2001, The SA Ballet Theatre celebrates its 7th birthday on Friday, March 1st. The Company will celebrate this milestone with a small party for the dancers at the SA Ballet Theatre studios.
