Dance creators find world at their feet
By Valerie Lawson in The Sydney Morning Herald

Stephen Baynes is going global. He's called "resident choreographer" of the Australian Ballet. But his residence next year is as likely to be New York or London as it is his hometown, Melbourne.
Like Stanton Welch, his fellow resident choreographer at the Australian Ballet, Baynes has a full diary of international commissions next year, with new works in the making for Seattle and New York, and a staging of Beyond Bach at the Royal Ballet in Covent Garden.
Baynes, an unassuming man, is "a little bit concerned" about taking Beyond Bach to London in January, despite its big success in Australia. That's partly because he believes "the knives are out" for Ross Stretton, whose choice it was to add Beyond Bach to the Royal Ballet's repertoire.
click for more
