One of the most talented and highly promising dancers of this generation, Kristina Shapran has just been appointed prima ballerina at the Mikhailovsky Ballet. In 2009 she became a winner at the Mikhailovsky's Grand Prix. Her next step came two years later in the "Bolshoi Ballet" project on the "Kultura" TV channel. She spent 2 seasons at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre, dancing leading roles in Roland Petite's "Coppelia" and in Pierre Lacotte's "La Sylphide". Her debut at the Mikhailovsky is set for Feb. 8 in "Giselle", for which she's preparing under Altynai Asylmuratova.

And the news has it that both Shapran and Asylmuratova resigned this week due to a conflict with management. It's unclear where they will go next.

Catherine Pawlick asked me to post this for her as the site is having technical issues:

Ms. Pawlick spoke to Kristina Shapran on Sunday, and Shapran is now officially with the Mariinsky Ballet.
