SHANGHAI BALLET AT THE COLISEUMThe Shanghai Ballet Company will make their UK debut from August 14th-18th at the at the Coliseum in a new production of Jane Eyre choreographed by Patrick de Bana.
The ballet, a re-interpretation of Charlotte Brontë’s famous novel puts the character of Bertha Mason, Edward Rochester’s ‘mad’ wife, famously locked up in the attic for most of the novel, firmly centre stage along with her two-timing husband and the novel’s heroine, Jane Eyre.
The three lead dancers are scheduled to be Ji Pingping (Jane), Fan Xiaofeng (Bertha) and Wu Husheng (Rochester). The production features gigantic, atmospheric sets and lighting, and costume design that aims to meld Victorian dress with the 21st century.
‘Jane Eyre’ is a co-production between Shanghai Ballet Company and Shanghai Grand Theatre.
