Thomas Edur and Agnes Oaks, ENB’s star duo, were shamelessly, fabulously romantic in Wayne Eagling’s swooning Duet, set to the Liebestod from Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde. Elsewhere ENB fielded Daria Klimentova and Dmitri Gruzdyev in the Black Swan pas de deux, a predictable offering but plenty of fun nonetheless. From Birmingham came Chi Cao and Nao Sakuma in Vaganova’s flashy Diana and Acteon pas de deux. They are a terrific pair: her lovely neat style, his beefy big jumps.

We said goodbye to Belinda Hatley, now retired from Covent Garden, in Ashton’s Five Brahms Waltzes in the Manner of Isadora Duncan, a rare chance to see this wonderful dancer let her spirits run free.
