Mona Inglesby, who died on Friday aged 88, was the founder and leading ballerina of the International Ballet, a rival company to the Sadler's Wells Ballet and Ballet Rambert, and played a pivotal part in the salvation of the Russian classical ballets after the Russian Revolution.
The 21-year-old Mona Inglesby, then driving an ambulance in the war, decided that she could provide better service by forming a ballet company to tour the country.
