I am looking for information on Maria (or Manya) Kendzierska, who was an active Lituanian dancer in Vilnius during the 1920s/1930s . I wonder if anybody heard, or has an idea of where such information could be found.

Hi Amnon! I've exchanged e-mails with Jurate in Lithuania and she tells me that she has been unable to find any information about Maria (or Manya) Kendzierska.

Have you tried the Opera House in Vilnius?

Thank you Stuart very much for your response and help...I have no idea how to contact the Opera House in Vilnius. I will appreciate any input as to how to reach them.

Thanks again Stuart, we will certainly pursue your tip.

I was able to piece together a few additional details from 2nd generation relatives about dancer Kendzierska. Manya was born in Vilnius between 1908 to 1910. In 1918 or 1919, when Manya was about 8-10 years old, her recently widowed mother and siblings escaped from Vilnius to Breslau (now Wroclaw) for fear of the approaching Bolsheviks. In Breclaw Manya grew up and continued her dance education that probably begun in Vilnius. At least at one occasion, during the 1930's, a distant family member observed a street sign in Vilnius announcing the appearance of the "famous visiting international Vienna 'tancerina' Maria Kendzierska".

Hopefully, these new pieces of information can assist in finding more information on Maria Kendzierska.
