A Work in Which the Set Is the Star
by ROSLYN SULCAS for the New York Times
The setting for "Metapolis II," presented in collaboration with the monthlong (June 12 to July 12) Marseille Festival, was an open-air theater in the pretty Parc Henri Fabre, which houses the Marseille Ballet studios and school. The convergence of people in a green space within a dense urban fabric is the kind of circumstance Mr. Flamand and Ms. Hadid evoke in "Metapolis II," a visually compelling piece that is unexpectedly — given the very serious program text on the relationship between dance and architecture — easy to watch.
