AS 'Billy Elliott' mania continues to gather pace, The Observer's Jann Parry interviews a number of stars and rising stars at the Royal - Tamara Rojo, Johan Persson, Edward Watson, Alina Cojocaru, Ivan Putrov, Marianela Nunez.
Tamara Rojo talks about the revelation that ENB's 'Rite of Spring' was for her and the desire it created to do more modern work. It's noteworthy that at the ENB Xmas Coli season they will do some 30 'Nutcrackers', 11 'Swan Lakes' and two peformances of a triple with 'Les Sylphides', 'Etudes' and Tetley's 'Voluntaries', the only post 1950 work on display ie less than 1% of the Coli schedule is post 1950.
Two of the younger dancers also comment on the opportunities that the RB gives them to do more modern work. All those interviewed are excellent dancers from my own experience or second hand reports.

Jann Parry interviews the RB dancers

[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited October 08, 2000).]
