Read in THE TELEGRAPH recently:
RED SHOE DAY
Sir Ludovic Kennedy and his wife Moira Shearer are - after almost half a century - to be reunited with the ballet shoes that sparked thier romance.
The size 3 1/2 satin "pointes", worn by Shearer in the film THE RED SHOES will be on display at the Imperial War Museum next month, as naval veterans - with Sir Ludo as guest of honour - commemorate the 60th anniversary of the sinking of the Bismarck.
"I saw THE RED SHOES with my mother when I was working as a librarian in Berkhampsted," says Sir Ludo. "There was this beautiful girl in it and I completely fell for her. By coincidence, we both ended up at the Sadler's Wells Old Vic Ball six weeks later. I was pretty nervous, but eventually plucked up the courage to ask Moira for a dance - and one year later we were married."
Neither sir Ludo nor his wife has seen the shoes since donating them as a "trophy" to the submarine HMS Tiptoe in 1952.
_______________________________
All together now: AAAAHHHH! Red Shoes - what a delightful story. It certainly says something about the determination and bravery of a man (ah romance!!) who has the courage to ask Moira Shearer to dance, doesn't it? What woman could resist such a knight?
Size 3 1/2 pointe shoes? .....her foot is half the size of mine? well, there goes that dream....no wonder he couldn't resist her.
Thanks again...
