Image
Agnes Letestu and Nicolas Le Riche in 'Apollon musagète' by Balanchine
Photo: Icare
'Three Sure Winners And One Lame Duck.' Patricia Boccadoro reviews a mixed bill (in more ways than one) at the POB including Balanchines's 'Apollo', 'Annunciation' by Preljocaj, and 'A Suite of Dances' by Robbins. The final work was a new one 'Yamm' by Lionel Hoche and Ms Boccadoro gets very hot under the collar about this 'Lame Duck'.
Methinks she doth protest to much. How else will we get rep for the future except by commissioning new work, a percentage of which will not be seen again, as has always been the case. And 3 out of 4 with one of the best dance companies in the world, for about £30 or $45 sounds like a great bargain to me. However, maybe it was a mistake to programme it last.
http://www.culturekiosque.com/dance/reviews/rhemixbill.html?mail

[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited January 03, 2001).]

Paris Opera Ballet is coming to the Orange County Performing Arts Center, Costa Mesa, California on May 8th to the 13th.
They are scheduled to perform "La Bayadére".
And, yes, I do have my tickets and "La Bayadére" is one of my favorite ballets. That second act corps de ballet Shades Scene takes my breath away.

And they'll be bringing "Le Parc" in addition to "La Bayadere" to SF the week before that.
