It is good for Tamara Rojo that she can dance with the Royal Ballet earlier than expected. Hope that she's had a nice holiday after the end of the English National Ballet's season at the Royal Albert Hall in June.

This sounds like a good thing all around. RB seems to be not only "thin" on top but very plagued with injuries right now.

This is illustrated by the fact that with the wonderful Klimentova unavailable, their 'Sleeping Beauty' opened with the very talented, but very young Takahashi.

Ismene Brown interviews Tamara Rojo, now of the RB, but previously with ENB and before that Scottish Ballet.
The Telegraph regularly has Ismene Brown carry out such interviews. In other papers this is often not the case and as a result we usually get far fewer insights from these generalist approaches.

Interview with Tamara Rojo

[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited October 26, 2000).]

Image
Here is the link to Rojo's personal website. I note that the stunning dancer Daria Klimentova has had a hand in the design of the site. Looking at the photos, I think they are from a few years ago. The poise shown in the balance above indicates her extraordinary control. She might even be able to make the Rose Adagio look like dancing rather than a gymnastic exercise. What the photos don't show is the flexibility and expressiveness that she has shown in recent roles such as 'The Rite of Spring' and 'Ondine'.
http://www.tamara-rojo.co.uk/index.html
The Evening Standard lists 10 young artists to watch in 2001. The main interest for us is the ubiquitous Tamara Rojo, who is rapidly becoming a focus for media attention. I could do without the tabloid throwaway final sentence about Darcey.
Further down we get a real sign of the times. I can understnd an up and coming rock star being included, but a DJ? Suddenly, I feel 10 years older!

http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/dynamic/hottx/review.html
?in_review_id=348349&in_review_text_id=292695

[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited January 05, 2001).]
