North West Ballet enthusiasts will be interested in a magical new ballet, 'Hoffmann' inspired by the opera 'The Tales of Hoffmann', choreographed by Kate Simmons featuring her students, to be performed at The Lowry in Manchester from Friday 6 - Sunday 8 April, 2001.
The Saturday matinee features the school's performing company 'Allegrodance' in its 5th year presenting a programme of ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary and Spanish and a workshop. Its final program this year having toured 8 school venues throughout the region.
Kate Simmons Upper School is a specialised private dance school based on the outskirts of Warrington and attracts students from many parts of the world. The current intake includes students from Japan, Thailand, Sweden, Norway and Malta who train with local students from Wales and the North West.
The BBC's NW Tonight crew spent 3 hours at Kate Simmons School yesterday where the rehearsal was filmed and Dianne Oxberry interviewed Kate Simmons and Steven Windsor (18) who is dancing the part of 'Hoffmann'. This will go out tomorrow evening Thursday on the NW Tonight 6.30 p.m. spot. (Of course I would expect that the 3 hours will end up as 10 seconds of airtime - with a bit of luck!)

Here's a very complimentary review of 'Hoffman' from Margaret Lumley, an experienced ballet fan:
