The Royal Ballet have a new Mixed Bill with a new work by Ashley Page. It has lots of dynamic movement, but the complex structure of the narrative is causing some consternation among both critics and audiences. It might be as well to treat it as a non-narrative work with a series of dialogues between the characters. The set is remarkable and the score innovative and very dancey. I'm looking forward to seeing it again.
Sarah Wildor and some others in 'The Concert' hammed it up too much in this enjoyable, but surprisingly broad piece. The Trocks are much more restrained.

'Mixed bill is very mixed indeed - Ismene Brown reviews the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House.'
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/et?ac=000148269364269&rtmo=lvvQQFwt
&atmo=99999999&pg=/et/01/3/9/btmix09.html

'Burning down the House - Royal Ballet Mixed Bill,' by Judith Mackrell
http://www.guardian.co.uk/reviews/story/0,3604,448819,00.html

'When two out of three ain't that bad,' BY NADINE MEISNER in The Independent.
http://globalarchive.ft.com/globalarchive/art
icle.html?id=010309001406&query=ballet

[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited March 09, 2001).]

'Revival of the fittest - The elegiac Triad returns after 17 years to expose the pangs of adolescence,' by Jann Parry.
Apart from the RB Mixed Bill, Parry also reviews the new BRB programme and remembers Dame Ninette de Valois.
http://www.observer.co.uk/review/story/0,6903,449654,00.html
[This message has been edited by Stuart Sweeney (edited March 14, 2001).]

'Turning over a new Page.' Mr Crisp does NOT enjoy the new Ashley Page.
http://globalarchive.ft.com/globalarchive/articles.html?id=010312001017&query=clement+crisp

Those of you who enjoy a 'full and frank' discussion, might wish to read the Mixed Bill topic on ballet.co.uk:
http://www.danze.co.uk/dcforum/happening/1433.html#
