Image
Peter Schaufuss brings his Elvis ballet, 'The King', to Sadler's Wells and is interviewed about his approach to winning new audiences for dance. Schaufuss has been the AD of Festival Ballet (now ENB) and Royal Danish Ballet.
www.newsunlimited.co.uk/arts/story/0,3604,158423,00.html
This reminds me. San Jose Cleveland Ballet does a ballet called "Blue Suede Shoes" to Elvis music. Never saw it but I hear it's quite a crowd pleaser.

'The King' by Peter Schaufuss has run into copyright problems over the songs. The Edinburgh performances have been cancelled andit looks as though the London prformances may also been cancelled.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/UK/This_Britain/2000-04/presley170400.shtml

Good news! Mr. Schaufuss has been busy slotting some new songs into the production and the current word is that 'The King' performances will go ahead at Sadler's Wells.

It looks as though 'The King' will go ahead, but without The King!! Rather than a quick re-jig, it looks as though Shaufuss has had to do a quick total transformation.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/People/Profiles/2000-04/notelvis260400.shtml

Judith Mackrell does her best to be generous, given all the problems that have beset 'The King', but it doesn't sound like a 'must-go' production. However, as Mackrell tell us, 'Still, members of an Elvis tribute band who attended felt their hero had been honoured. "From what I saw here tonight," said one, "Elvis would have been proud."'
http://www.guardianunlimited.co.uk/reviews/story/0,3604,215567,00.html
