I'm visiting St. Petersburg next month while doing research for a book and am wondering if anyone knows whether it's possible to visit the museum at the Vaganova Academy. I keep finding conflicting information...some say you must hire a private guide, some say it's open to the public, some say it's all but impossible. Would greatly appreciate any advice!

The one time that I went there it was a very busy day and no one answered the phones. I went over myself with someone who spoke french, which I understand, and russian, of which I know very little. A nice lady, probably higher echelon, let me in for an hour. A young man led me. I offered him some money for his assistance and he very politely refused to accept it. The atmosphere was very pleasant, lots of smiling young students running around, but there was also an aura of reverence.
