Post subject:  “The Mariinsky at Grand Ballet” - Kultura TV - Autumn 2015

Thanks, Catherine, for the latest “Grand Ballet” — Kultura TV updates. I enjoyed the 2012 “Grand Ballet” TV programs and look forward to the new ones. I believe that this will be the first time since 2012 that these programs will be presented. I think that it’s a nice chance for the art form to be seen by the large TV audience in a different format.

Some of the performers that I liked very much and have followed closely from 2012 are Olga Smirnova (Vaganova, Bolshoi), Christina Shapran (Mariinsky) and Anna Tikhomirova (Bolshoi). This year I’ll look forward to the Mariinsky’s Nadezhda Batoeva, who is charming, and Kimin Kim, who will probably blow the fuses of more than a few TV sets. Also from the Mariinsky will be Ernest Latypov, apparently much appreciated, and Renata Shakirova, whom I’m not familiar with.

All can be seen here. ... 6-20-33-38

This is who’s doing what with the first night’s ratings. (Thanks to Sophia at Dansomanie for posting the names.)

I rather enjoyed the lowest rated performance of “Getting Ready” by Ekaterina Boulgoutova and Youri Koudriavtsev (Théâtre d'Etat de Krasnoyarsk). It’s a modern abstract effort, where the moves work for me. (You have to go to the full program recording to see them.) I’d say that all the performances were quite good. Kimin Kim, of course, went Wow!
