The legendary ballerina, Maya Plisetskaya, passed away today, 02 May 2015 in Germany from a heart attack.

For those who understand Russian, a program on her life with an open Q&A forum:

May she rest in peace. The sad end of an era in ballet. :(

Catherine, one day during this year’s Festival, I came downstairs at the Astoria Hotel and was told that Maya Plisetskaya had just left. Although disappointed not being able to see her, my memories will thus remain firstly of the vibrant Prima Ballerina. Her name has been on a golden plaque in the hotel lobby, along with many other world famous celebrities, for all the time that I’ve stayed there.

Russian President, Vladimir Putin, once said that she’ll be remembered long after he’s been forgotten. Whether true or not, it was a fine compliment.

Indeed Buddy, both Putin and Medvedev expressed their deep sympathies to Rodion Schedrin and the rest of the family. All week the Kultura channel has run videos or interviews or shows featuring Maya. And Facebook continues its online tributes to her life and her artistry. Putin's words are touching and reveal his wisdom and sense of propriety. Not all world leaders have those qualities.
