News from a few days ago that I haven't had time to post yet, although I've already posted it in twitter and other media.

https://news.mail.ru/inregions/fareast/25/society/21494743/

The Primorskiy Theatre of Opera and Ballet is now an official branch of the Mariinsky Theatre under Maestro Gergiev. The details of cooperation and management have yet to be worked out.

As someone mentioned, now there is the "Mariinka 4" (since we have 1, 2, and 3 in Petersburg already).

Catherine, someone at another forum has suggested that the reason for this is that the Mariinsky wants closer contact with Asia. This is indeed an interesting idea.

Well the thinking in Russia is that Gergiev wants Mariinka 4 to tack on to Mariinka 1, 2 and 3.
___

As a side note, those who recall Eldar Aliyev from his performances of Corsaire in the Kirov Ballet's 1991/2 tours to California, will note that he is now Head Balletmaster for the troupe, and setting that very ballet. So already arms (legs) of the Kirov/Mariinsky exist in Vladivostok.

Catherine, someone else at the same forum has pointed out that Vladivostok is only a 2 hour 40 minute flight from Tokyo and that there are 4 Japanese soloists in the company. These implications continue to be quite interesting.
