Many of you have already written me about this very sad event, which I saw on the news here just as it was announced.

Here is Kommersant's official announcement of her passing, which states that her heart stopped during her sleep. Translation below my own.

http://www.kommersant.ru/doc.aspx?froms ... id=1163096

"Even in ballet school she was the favorite of her pedagogue, Elizabeth Pavlovna Gerdt, the last Imperial ballerina of the Soviet theatre, endowing her talented pupil with the elegant, decorative pre-revolutionary manner of dance. That the girl would become a prima ballerina was immediately evident: elegance, a surprisingly proportional figure, amazing legs, the charming face of a girl-woman, and a full set of professional traits - a big step, bravura rotation, refined feet, a light jump. Absolutely, this surprising creation did not have the slightest flaw."

The civil ceremony of her burial took place at 10 a.m. on April 30 inside the Bolshoi Theatre. She's survived by her 94-year-old mother and her husband, Vladimir. May she rest in eternal peace.
