fedora, my copy of Yevteyeva's Swan Lake is a copy a friend of mine made for me, from a copy he made from somewhere -- maybe TV, maybe a library copy.

I have the Komleva Bayaderka -- I think she's wonderful. I like the way the entrance of the Shades is filmed.

I only saw Evteyeva dance once, in Bayaderka in Leningrad in 1974. Frankly she lacked stage presence and didn't project much personality. She was completely overshadowed by the amazing Gamzatti of the far older Ninel Kurgapkina. Other dancers I saw on that trip included Irina Kolpakova and Alla Osipenko representing the old guard and Tatiana Terekhova and Galina Mezentseva as the new.

Evteyeva looks very beautiful in the film being discussed and compares very favourably to the mainly inferior Kirov dancers of today but you never hear her name mentioned much these days.

djb, is it possible that you make few screen shots from this production? :-)
No, I haven't gotten around to setting things up so I can do that.

As for Evteyeva's stage presence, I've only seen her on video, and I like her presence there very much. My friend who made the copy for me especially liked her on the emotional level, especially how she interacted with the prince.

I love Kurgapkina's personality, both as a dancer and a teacher (from what I've seen in documentaries).

Post subject:  Yevteyeva's Odette/Odile

Compared to Makarova's, Yevteyva's O/O on the '68 tape is definitely different: Very subdued but still, equally as beautiful as Makarova's. Makarova's O/O, (first with the Kirov), then with the Royal, and then ABT were very forward thinking and mega-original - always evolving, as was her Giselle - both totally her's. To put this in perspective, Bessmertnova's Giselle and O/O were considered to be in the same mold at the Bolshoi.

Yevteyeva's Florine, (captured on the 1983 "Sleeping Beauty" DVD with Kolpakova & Berezhoi), was clear, pristine, and very stately, but not very joyous. It was nowhere near as extroverted as Makarova's on the Sizova tape, or as audacious as Semenyaka's on "The Art of the Bolshoi" tape. Still, she held her own. She's turned out to be an excellent teacher and coach, like Moiseyeva and Kurgapkina, having the rare ability to inspire and pull the artistry out of the artist.
