Acosta has a valid point to make. Ballet tends not to produce troubled mixed-up kids such as Polunin as most dancers, even at an early age, have developed a deep commitment to the art. Polunin is an outlier, not typical of the majority, and though his talent is undeniable his unreliability and character flaws are losing him support among ballet goers. His better behaved contemporaries such as Ivan Vasiliev and Vadim Muntagirov will come out on top in the end.
