Post subject:  Upcharging

okay, so I have a question that may lead to questions. I found out that the dance studio my daughters go to is upcharging on EVERYTHING. Required leotards, tights, shoes, warm-up suits, costumes, rhinestones - everything! I wasn't so sure that was so wrong, but I've had others tell me they don't see it right. I decided to stay with my gut feeling. Well recently I found out that this studio is upcharging on competition fees. Is that wrong? Her reasoning is for expenses. But, we pay choreography, class time, misc. time, etc. etc. and then I find out that this is taking place. I have multiple kids in dance and I seem to be paying the most. So what do I do? I've been calling other studios keeping the current studio's name out of it (I'm being respectful) and they do not upcharge. My studio told me (of course) that others do. Can you provide me insight. I'm been left with a bad taste in my mouth.

I don't know if they're universal, but competition fees at least are quite common.

My personal suggestion is to find a studio that doesn't go to comps; in general, your child will get better training, focused on the art of dancing rather than on winning.
