I will totally agree with that last statement.
I also already new R&J's story when I was required to read it as a freshman in high school and I was one of the few and it was because of ballet. My cultural knowledge was definitely beyond the average high school students because of my exposure to ballet and opera at a young age.
I was a pretty verbal child growing up in a family that liked wordplay so I was probably in a better positions than most ballet students to understand that words can be understood differently than they are meant. That is what I wish we could get across to our young dancers nowadays.
