An interesting survey and criticism of New York City's print critics (as opposed to Internet critics) in a variety of fields, including dance. I could not be less surprised about the dance results.
Everyone’s a critic, but some professional reviewers have the power to shape NYC culture—and for the first time, these tastemakers have been rated by the artists and industry insiders who know them best.

I am surprised to learn that John Rockwell will be retiring by the end of the year -- presumably 2006? at the end of this month? It seems that he just started following Anna Kisselgoff's seemingly also recent retirement.

I am saddened to see once again, "Painting, Drawing, etc." under the rubric of ART in the article, with Dance, Theatre, Books, etc. labelled as such...aren't these also forms of "Art"? Why the constant discrimination, as though "painting" is "art" and the others not? Just a thought
