Post subject:  what DVD's do you recommend?

I want to buy some classical ballet DVD's for my girlfriend. I'm quite clueless about ballet (but am going to see my first, the Pharoah's Daughter, next month at ROH). Are there any particular DVD's of ballet performances, available in UK, that you could recommend to me please?

Thank you all for your help :)

Hi and welcome!

Why not buy the Pharao's daughter with Zakharova?

My favourite DVD is the wonderful Swan Lake by the Kirov:

I don't know what's available in the UK, but I'm assuming the selection is more or less the same as that in the US.

In this situation, you can't go wrong by sticking with the world's major ballet companies: Royal Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Kirov, Bolshoi.

Since it seems like you have ample opportunity to see RB in person, I'd concentrate on the others.
