Such immersion will never replace live performance, but it can provide an invaluable adjunct to it, quite apart from the minor matter of sheer pleasure. A library of DVD's can offer fascinating contrasts of overall style and approach, as in the radically different interpretations of "Cinderella" by Frederick Ashton and by Maguy Marin: if you can have both, there's no need to choose only one.
