Founded in 1991, Dancers Responding to AIDS (DRA) is a fundraising program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA), the nation's leading industry-based AIDS fundraising and grant-making organization. DRA is the ongoing committed response from the American dance community to an urgent worldwide health crisis. The funds that DRA raises are distributed to over 400 AIDS Service organizations across the United States. Funds are also distributed to seven programs of The Actors' Fund of America, which offers assistance to all professionals working in the dance community who may be facing a health crisis. These programs provide emergency financial assistance for rent subsidies, health insurance, non-reimbursable medical insurance and care, food, and other basic necessities, as well as a full spectrum of social services, including case management, work retraining, educational and therapy groups and referrals to other sources of community and public support. Since its founding, BC/EFA and DRA have distributed over $45 million to support these programs.
