The 45-year-old choreographer founded the mould-breaking, all-female Cholmondeleys dance group in 1984. She recalls the moment when a hit-and-run driver ploughed into her, leaving her with serious head injuries and jeopardising the future of the group. Interview: Caroline Scott for The Times
What happened to me was so bizarre that for a long time after, I thought: "Did it really happen like that?" Because in normal life, cars don't just spring out of nowhere and chase you down a suburban street. It was November 2001 and I was on my way home to Peckham after a gig at the Barbican. I'm mad about American country music and I'd been to see Steve Earle with my boyfriend, David. We got off the bus at midnight and I was dancing down Southampton Way, still on a high.
