This was a good thread and I'm bumping it up with a little good news from the Contra Costa Times.

At a time when children's arts education is being affected by state budget cuts, any amount of cash would be considered heaven-sent.

The Mt. Diablo Unified School District, in partnership with Civic Arts Education, has received funding for the first year of a $704,000 three-year grant from the U. S. Department of Education.

The grant supports research of effects of arts education on academic achievement, student attendance, frequency of disciplinary actions and increased knowledge in the arts, said Gary Pokorny, Walnut Creek city arts, recreation and community services director.
