A parent at my studio is threatening to sue because she feels that her daughter was innapropriately touched. The teacher was merely correcting her daughter's placement.<BR> The director just had a meeting with all of the teachers and student teachers (myself included) and said that she was requiring each parent to sign a waiver allowing the teacher to touch the student. If the parent doesn't sign the waiver the teacher cannot touch the student. This means I have to know who's parent did and din't sign the waiver. I also can't hug the little three year old who just fell over and is in tears. I can't help my little ballerina's put their hair in a bun. I can't correct placement in my beginers class. Does this seem rediculous? Where should we draw the line? Is it okay to correct arm placement but not the torso? Is it okay for female teachers to touch her students but not male teachers?

Dancer - welcome to the board - and this is a fascinating subject. It does make the life of a dance teacher difficult and raises many interesting questions.
