Save Swindon Dance

In the UK, there is a crisis at Swindon Dance, where the Local Council is proposing to throw this National Dance Agency out of its current premises. It's the place where Lee Smikle of AMP did his initial training.

For full information about this threat to part of the UK dance infrastructure, we have details and how to take action in our UK News and Views forum

I had heard that the only adult ballet summer school in the UK was held in Swindon. Could it be the same people? From reading the webpage it does seem the sort of thing these people would do, but I haven't found any more information about this course.

It is indeed the same people, though their summer school is not the only one for adults in the UK. It is, however, the only one that accepts adult beginners. It would be a terrible shame to lose such a unique facility...
If the centre does fight off closure, you can get more information on the summer school by calling 01793 463 213.
Hi Stuart, and thanks for the welcome. I live in Manchester, so have had no involvement with Swindon Dance beyond enquiring about the summer school last year. Compared to our local dance agency, Swindon seems prolific in its activities, suggesting that dance in this region suffers from the same lack of funding that threatens them... Is this the same everywhere, I wonder?

[This message has been edited by Mr Robin (edited January 20, 2002).]
