I'm looking for a subject for a small historiographic research, so I need a subject on which there is a lively debate, including publications. It could be anything within dance history, but I would prefer something about modern dance. Any ideas??

Hi thule thule and welcome to CriticalDance. The best advice I can give is to look through the topics here in "Issues" and see if anything springs out for you.

You could also search in this forum for the phrase - modern dance. The search function is at top right.

How about " At what moment did modern dance begin?" or " Who was the first modern choreographer?" Just defining modern dance will be a challenge, but I am sure it would raise a lot of interesting questions. I have been reading an autobiography about Frederick Ashton - Secret Muses - The Life of Freedick Ashton, which has a thorough references, and may give you afew good ideas.

A working hypothesis could be that modern dance developed out of post WWI Europe and Russia ( compare and contrast to the other mdern art forms - lterature, painting, music etc.), and was an attempt to restructure a classical world that had been shattered. Anyway, just a thought.
