Nureyev’s disciple in court over sex among the ballerinas
By Matthew Campbell for The Sunday Times

THE French music world has never seen anything like it. A revolt among dancers at the prestigious Bordeaux National Opera has resulted in the director of the corps de ballet being hauled before a judge on charges of “moral harassment”.

Charles Jude, 51, a former disciple of Rudolf Nureyev, was accused in court on Thursday of rewarding with star billing those ballerinas who agreed to have sexual relations with him and penalising those who did not.

Stuart adds: We have to remember that this is an allegation at present and Jude has not been found guilty of anything.

“I am glad I spoke out,” said Ballon. “I have shattered years of silence and terror.”

I'm interested to hear comments on whether a conspiracy of silence is common in ballet, as Ballon alleges.
