This was sent to me by the head of NDEO.
Please read and act. Also, copy and paste this into email and send to your other teacher friends. Thanks.
Janet

From: Dr. Lynnette Young Overby <overbyl@pilot.msu.edu>
To: <NDEOLIST@LIST.MSU.EDU>
Sent: Thursday, August 30, 2001 10:07 AM
Subject: List Serve Info - NDEO
Advanced Placement Exams for Theater and Dance
This is a viable possibility! But we as arts professionals need to respond ASAP!! The deadline has already passed, but the dance field has not shown a solid response. The College Board has given us another chance. It is
imperative that you respond to the survey at www.collegeboard.org/ap. It takes less than Five Minutes. Please respond, this initiative depends on your input.
Why it is important to support NEW Advanced Placement Exams in THEATER AND DANCE through THE COLLEGE BOARD?
* After decades of pushing by many people, The College Board is considering offering Advanced Placement Exams in Dance and Theater. Advanced Placement exams in Theater and Dance would offer a dramatic boost to the standing of these arts in schools, to their viability as courses of study, and to the visibility of arts in high schools in general. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and we must respond enthusiastically, loudly, and immediately.
Please fill out the survey on The College Board Site listed below.
*The College Board is cautious about launching new AP courses because of expense and the difficult task of determining advanced accomplishment in these areas. However, if Theater and Dance AP exams were created they
would set a precedent for an established testing authority turning its attention to the qualities of artistic performance.
*Pass the word on to your colleagues as well. While The College Board is most interested in hearing from high school theater and dance teachers, a strong voice from everyone in the field would be helpful.
Please fill out the survey on The College Board website that requests input for new AP Courses. This is our preferred means of expressing support.
(There is a paragraph calling for teacher opinions, select the blue Dance or Theater links): www.collegeboard.org/ap
If you do not have Internet access, send letters or emails in support to:
Attn: Vicente Viray
The College Board
45 Columbus Ave.
New York, NY 10023
apcourses@collegeboard.org
Submitted by:
Amanda Harp
Administative Assistant
National Dance Education Organization
4948 St. Elmo Ave. #301
Bethesda, MD 20814
ph. 301.657.2880
fax 301.657.2882
email: aharp@ndeo.net

------------------
Janet

That certainly was a simple questionnaire - thank you, Janet.
