music and choreography of this innovative production of The Jazzy Sleeping
Beauty.
ballet tech cincinnati Executive Producer and President, Marvel Gentry
Davis, explains, "We wanted to marry traditional ballet with something
really new and 'on the edge'. That product is The Jazzy Sleeping Beauty.
I'm delighted to work with composer Mark Lomax and choreographer Waverly
Lucas II , who has garnered accolades for his translation of the tradional
into the "Urban Nutcracker", a new Atlanta Holiday tradition, and his entire
choreographic team from Ballethnic Dance Company to produce this show."
Mark Lomax, musician and composer extraordinaire, has a great deal of
experience translating music from contemporary to classical and back in his
work with the Nashville Symphony. Lomax says, "This is the classical score
reinterpreted into a jazz aesthetic."
