Trainee Program at Mainland Academy

This comprehensive and focused program is desigend for dancers that have completed their secondary school education or are attending school via correspondance/homeschool programmes, and at are an advanced ballet level.

Two levels are accepted: advanced students, and trainees.
1) Advanced: students must be at or approaching an advanced level. Half-day programme.
2) Trainees: may be eligible to become understudies/apprentices with the company. Trainees attend on full or partial scholarship based upon audition results and previous experience. Trainees have completed their ballet studies and advance their technique skills in the fall semester (Sept-Dec 2007). Starting January 2008 trainees train and understudy with the Ballet de Printemps. Selected trainees may apprentice with the company. Trainees offered apprentice contracts must be able to work in Canada.

The ATP programme begins September 2007. Rehearsal and performance experience enable trainees to gain valuable professional experience.
In addition to morning and elective afternoon technique lessons, the *curriculum includes modern, repertoire/pointe, pas de deux, character, conditioning and seminars. *Certain classes vary between semesters.

DIABLO BALLET’S APPRENTICE PROGRAM AUDITION
Diablo Ballet’s Apprentice Program, under the directorship of Viktor Kabaniaev
and Tina Kay Bohnstedt, who are world renowned teachers, award winning
choreographers and dancers, is a highly competitive program offering intense
training to a small, hand-picked select group of young dancers who have
outstanding potential. This program, which is by audition only, offers
participants extensive preparation for the working world of professional dance by providing daily
technique class, repertory and pointe class six days per week. Students have the
opportunity to perform in two different productions of the Nutcracker, in Diablo
Ballet productions as well as their own performances dancing new work created
especially for them. In addition to rigorous training, participants in the
Apprentice Program enjoy the excitement of close contact with a professional
company, a unique and invaluable experience in preparation for their
professional careers.

In October 2005, the Diablo Ballet Apprentice Dancers placed first in the
pre-professional division of the Dance Under the Stars Choreography Competition
in Palm Desert, California. Four of the Apprentice Dancers, who participated at
the 2007 and 2008 Youth America Grand Prix Competitions, were awarded Grand
Prix, 1st place, 2nd place as well as finishing in the top 12. In a recent
review, The San Francisco Chronicle said, “These strong, confident girls are clearly receiving terrific training.” Dance View West Magazine said, “Diablo
Ballet has developed an impressive Apprentice Program, whose young women showed
fine training. Apprentices don’t often get opportunities like this. Yet for a
small company like Diablo, they could be a valuable resources, provided they are
as good as theses young women were.”

THE FRENCH ACADEMIE OF BALLET IS HOLDING AUDTIONS FOR DANCE STUDENTS AGES 10 TO 19 FOR ITS YEAR-ROUND 2011/2012 PRE-PROFESSIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM BEGINNING THIS FALL. 



MANHATTAN (August, 2011) – The French Academie of Ballet, founded by Artistic Director Francois Perron, will hold auditions for dance students ages 10 to 19 for its year-round 2011/2012 pre-professional training program starting September 12, 2011.

Founded in 2011 by François Perron, the French Académie of Ballet is a unique pre-professional training program that had not previously existed in the United States. Based on the French School of classical technique, the French Académie of Ballet trains pre-professional dancers in the tradition of classical technique, promoting ballet in its purest form; placing emphasis on precision and elegance.

Beginning this fall, the Académie will officially begin its year-round pre-professional program with three levels of training, Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced. Each level will be closely supervised by François and taught by himself and his faculty.

The curriculum created by Francois Perron, graduate of the Paris Opera Ballet School, is based on the French School of classical technique. The curriculum is designed to develop strength and flexibility through a pure classical technique. At each level, a schedule of classes has been created to develop the physical and technical strength that propel a dancer toward artistic growth and prepare dancers for the demands of a professional dance career.

Philip Gardner author of the online blog, Oberon’s Grove wrote in his May 21, 2011 posting, “Francois has a very sharp eye and is quite strict in handing out corrections, which is exactly what good dancers need to become great ones. Although they are young, the dancers took his critical remarks in the best sense and strove to deliver the desired improvements. His style calls for elegant, seamless transitions and he could immediately determine the source of any flaws and explain what the dancer needed to do to achieve the proper execution. One might think that that would be a given in ballet training at this level, but you'd be surprised at some of the things that have passed uncorrected in classes and rehearsals that I've watched. “
