CHOP SHOP: BODIES OF WORK, 2015, a Contemporary Dance Festival to be presented February 14 & 15, 2015 at Meydenbauer Theatre, Bellevue, WA

Announcing a call for choreographers/dance companies with contemporary work to be presented at Chop Shop: Bodies of Work, an annual dance festival highlighting the BEST from the greater Pacific Northwest contemporary dance scene and beyond.

Chop Shop is committed to presenting work that is accessible to a wide range of both new and seasoned audiences. In partnership with the Experience Dance Project outreach program, this Festival promotes the art of contemporary dance through experience, education and performance.

Chosen work will perform in both performances (Saturday evening and Sunday matinee.) Artists will also have an opportunity to offer Master Classes on stage during the daytime hours of the Festival.

Now in its EIGTH year, this highly anticipated Eastside event continues with sold out performances and outstanding critical acclaim on both a local and national level. This is a great way to build your visibility and exposure to growing and enthusiastic Eastside audiences. Past participants have included Spectrum Dance Theater, Northwest Dance Project, Joshua Beamish, Whim W'Him, Grand Rapids Ballet, Adam Barruch Dance and Mark Haim, to name only a few.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: AUGUST 30th, 2014

Requirements:

Applications accepted online or by hard copy.

Format: DVD or Online Work Sample

Please include (via letter or email) the following information: Name of dance company, address or city of location of company, name of choreographer with brief bio, title of piece, length of piece, number of dancers performing in piece, where piece has previously been performed, and a brief explanation of piece.

A CALL TO ARTISTS for Participation in CHOP SHOP: Bodies of Work 2016

A Contemporary Dance Festival presented February 13th & 14th, 2016 at Meydenbauer Theatre (Belleuve, WA, U.S.A.)

Announcing a call for choreographers/dance companies with contemporary work to be presented at CHOP SHOP: Bodies of Work, an annual dance festival presenting extraordinary contemporary dance from the Pacific Northwest and beyond, alongside master classes and a free community outreach program.

About the Festival

CHOP SHOP’s mission is to offer insight on contemporary dance and its creative process, in order to forge deeper connections between artists and audiences through presentation, education, dialogue, and experience. The festival is committed to promoting work that is accessible to a diverse audience, comprised of both new and experienced dance viewers, and educating the community-at-large through free outreach classes offered through our innovative Experience Dance Program.

Now in its ninth year, this highly anticipated event continues with sold out performances and outstanding critical acclaim on both a local and national level. Past participants include Spectrum Dance Theatre, Northwest Dance Project, Joshua Beamish, Whim W’Him, Alex Ketley/The Foundry, Adam Barruch Dance, Zoe Scofield, Grand Rapids Ballet, and Mark Haim.

Information for Artists

Work presented will not exceed 10 minutes in length. Samples of “works in progress” are accepted, but should show at least 75% of the completed piece. Works still in conceptual form will not be considered. A modest performance and master class stipend is paid. While we encourage applications from beyond the Pacific Northwest, please be advised that the festival’s limited budget does not allow us to assist with travel, transportation, and/or accommodation costs.

Chosen work will be presented in both performances (Saturday evening and Sunday matinee). Additionally, artists have the opportunity to offer a master class and participate in a lecture/demonstration on the art of choreography during the daytime hours of the festival.

Application Requirements

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Monday, August 31st, 2015

Applications accepted online or in hard copy.

To be considered for CHOP SHOP: Bodies of Work 2016 please submit, via email or letter:

1. DVD or online work sample

2. Name of dance company and its location

3. Name and brief bio of the work’s choreographer

4. Title and length of the work, and number of dancers performing the work

5. Performance history of the work

6. Brief explanation of the work

Dance Omi is now accepting applications for the 2016 Residency

Residency Dates: July 19 - August 8, 2016
Application Deadline: January 4, 2016 (11:59pm PST)
Results Announced: March 2, 2016

About Dance Omi
Dance Omi is a unique opportunity for a collection of international dance artists to explore the process of collaboration through dance. The Residency consists of three weeks of artistic process and sharing. Uninterrupted by the constraints of lack of space, time, or other artists with whom to work, the richness of this residency is that it is an exploration. Residents are encouraged to collaborate with each other, without the pressure of having to create a performance product. It is a model for artistic process and international community building.
Who Should Apply
Applicants active as both dancers AND choreographers, who work within any style of dance, are encouraged to apply. It is recommended that applicants do not come with specific projects in mind, but that they are open to working with others on jointly conceived projects. Applicants must have a genuine openness to collaborating with multi-national artists of diverse cultural, socio-political, linguistic and dance backgrounds.
All awarded fellows must commit to staying for the entire residency and receive full room and board during their stay at Omi. Please note that Dance Omi is unable to provide travel funds

Applicants can create a user ID and login in order to begin applications and return to finish them at a later date.

In order to apply, you will need to:

1. Fill in your contact information.
2. Submit a statement on what working collectively means to you and how you feel you can contribute to the collective experience (no more than 200 words).
3. Upload a headshot photo (jpg format).
4. Fill in a resume form that asks for choreographic works and presentations, performance experience, education, languages spoken and additional dance related experience.
5. Upload one letter of recommendation from an established professional in the dance field relative to your career progress and/or your collaborative experience (Maximum 2 pages, acceptable upload formats: .doc, .docx, .pdf).
6. Upload or attach links* for two, but no more than three representative samples of your work as a performer, improviser, and/or choreographer. Acceptable formats for uploading your video samples are: .mov, .mp4, .wmv, .avi.
Your uploaded video should not exceed 50MB and each excerpt should be no longer than three minutes. The applicant MUST appear in at least one of the samples. It is suggested, but not required, that one of the submitted work samples be an in studio improvisation or rehearsal footage of the applicant artist.

* PLEASE NOTE, uploading the videos or utilizing Vimeo are the only acceptable means of sharing video files.Youtube links will not be accepted as we must be able to download the files for the panel review process.
