Arizona observes NDW with week long festivities and ending with a dance concert, "Celebration of Dance," on May 3, 2003. Led by NDW AZ State Director, Helena Saraydarian, (Golden Lion Productions) a wonderful group of dance industry volunteers comprise the Planning Committee. Special guest Dee Dee Wood (Emmy Award winning director & choreographer), will be in attendance and the event is to be co-hosted by performance artist Gina Tleel, guest Celebrity spokesperson, Stacy Van Dyke (daughter of Dick Van Dyke). Former NDW Spokesperson, Joe Tremaine, will be invited as a guest speaker. The performance is to be held at the Herberger Theater in Phoenix, AZ at 7:30 pm. The NDW festivities will open with TAPWEST presented by directors Jan Lawton, a NDW Professional Representative, and Marcia Day with tap workshops and a performance. The week will continue with various dance activities such as classes, workshops, seminars and dance video viewing party. Local dance companies have been invited to perform in this 4th Annual "Celebration of Dance" and include: Ballet Arizona, Scorpius Dance Theater, regional College and University Performing companies. Modern, Jazz, Tap, Salsa, Hip Hop, and cultural dance styles will be represented.

For specific dates, times and locations, contact Ms Saraydarian by phone at 623 465.2720 or email her at: helenasaraydarian@yahoo.com" target="_blank

TAP WEST, directed by Marcia Day and Jan Lawton, is an Annual Celebration that helps to preserve and promote the Art of TAP DANCE and increase TAP DANCE awareness in the Arizona Community with the help of local TAP enthusiasts. This year's TAP WEST, our 5th Annual Celebration, will be held at the Desert Ridge Marketplace in Phoenix, Arizona, Loop 101 and Tatum Blvd., on April 26th, with Master Classes taught by our Special Guests ARTHUR DUNCAN on April 25th and MARK MENDONCA on April 27th. This fun weekend of activities will open the NATIONAL DANCE WEEK festivities in Arizona.

Each year TAP WEST has provided a way for more and more people to learn what fun TAP DANCING can be. ALL AGES (tappers and non-tappers) are invited to celebrate in helping us to achieve a record attendance in Arizona for the most people performing the same tap routine at the same time in the same place.

Registration begins at 2:00 p.m. on April 26th at the Desert Ridge Marketplace (near Paradise Bakery). The first 500 registered participants receive a free top hat and "goodie bag". You will learn the easy and fun TAP WEST Dance Routine from one of our Dance Captains and everyone will "perform" together at approximately 5:30 p.m. Then you can stay to see the TAP WEST SHOWCASE starring the "Best of the Best" on The District Stage at 7:00 p.m. Local studios and TAP groups perform in a non-competitive, fun atmosphere, delighting their audiences.

The TAP WEST main event on Saturday, April 26th, is a FREE event, but we do ask you to bring a non-perishable food or pet-food item to be donated to local food banks and local no-kill animal shelters.

This year registered participants will also have the opportunity to win Free Door Prizes provided by the Desert Ridge Merchants. You will have the opportunity to meet our Special Guests, ARTHUR DUNCAN and MARK MENDONCA. TAP WEST T-Shirts will be available for purchase and there will be more surprises to help us all celebrate dance during this very special week.

For more information about TAP WEST 2003 or to register for the Intermediate and Advanced Level Master Classes with ARTHUR DUNCAN and MARK MENDONCA, please contact JAN LAWTON, (480-661-8675, (602) 432-0196. TAPWESTAZ@cox.net" target="_blank .

We look forward to celebrating with YOU!
