For those of you who live in the Walnut Creek/Concord area of the California East Bay, you might know about a show performed by professional dancers and the pre-professional dancers of Momentum (formerly Moving Arts II.)
The show was performed on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of December. My daughter was in it, and she had a wonderful time doing it. She wasn't in Momentum- they had a class from Solad perform also for the mouse battle scene- but it was her first real show, no matter how small a part she had.
For those of you that haven't seen the show, it's about Alice in Wonderland's granddaughter, Alison, who falls down the rabbit hole 100 years later and finds that Wonderland has gone gothic. In the first two scenes, Chelsea Henrique (the girl who played Alison) does a beautiful solo, and is then attempted to be ripped in half by the Mouse King's grandchildren. She then meets the Mad Hatter, who's ancient, the Arabian Dancer's daughter from the Nutcracker, and The Formerly White Rabbit, the White Rabbit's great-great-great-great granddaughter who loses her stuffing dramatically during the middle of the show. However, with the help of the audience and Alison, they bring her back to life.
Along with those, there's Rapper Dee and Rapper Dum, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum's children, and their neices, Antio-Dee and Antio-Dum, who are constantly trying to beat each other in everything.
Also, don't forget- well, I'm not sure who the cats are (probably the Cheshire Cat's descendants), but they create quite a show of making sure they don't sit next to Alison. Once th Mad Hatter starts serving tea, The Queen of Hearts comes out, and is tricked by Alison so she doesn't get any tea.
Then, there's a huge warp and everyone is transported into a swing ballroom. There, two beautiful girls run out- the Sugar Plum Fairies of the show. The Sugar Rum Daddy is also there. (He threw the money he was teasing with into the audience while several three year olds picked it up. It was fabulous.) For a moment, everything is fun and everyone is dancing. But the Queen of Hearts come in, steals the hearts of two men, and warps everything back to where they were. (Except for a certain centipede- Alison and the Formerly White Rabbit ask the help of the Sugar Rum Daddy to help get her off.
The Mad Hatter comes in with three small gifts, which the Queen of Hearts, the Arabian Dancer, and the Formerly White Rabbit would love to open, but it's too early in the month. (During this time, Alison is reading about her grandmother. She is constantly nitpicking for places where she is mentioned.
Then the tea party starts. Alison starts it. She brings in a stack of cups much to big for her, which start falling. Everyone is worried- they don't want to show a mess in front of the Queen of Hearts. So they bring in another stack. And another. And another. And they all fall. It's mass chaos- Rapper Dee, Rapper Dum, Antio-Dee, and Antio-Dum all wave white flags at the very front.
Then the mice come in. Remember them? They're back, and they want revenge. Seeing the Mad Hatter, the start chasing him. And getting chased back. And chasing him. Soon, everyone is moving in a wave along the stage.
Every character swings out of the stage and grabs a small plate of cake, which they give to everyone. (The people in the audience were sitting at tea tables that had black-and-white checkered table clothes.) While everyone eats, they come back to the stage, a few giving some extra entertainment, especially the cards, who tend to get offered cake alot. Finally, every character comes onstage for a finale bow.
This was an entertaining and unique show that was for the whole family. Has anyone seen this show?
