Students enjoy a ‘Suite’ performance
By Margie Anne Clark for The Signal (California)

The Santa Clarita Ballet Company performed “The Nutcracker” to more than 800 fourth grade students of the Newhall School District on Wednesday at the Hart High Auditorium as part of its outreach program.

The students sat attentively as student and professional dancers twirled and pirouetted their way across the stage to the tune of Piotr Tchaikovsky’s famous score, based on the fairy tale by E.F. Hoffman. Adding to the excitement of the performance was the Kalinin Dance Company, which includes dancers directly from Russia under the direction of world-renowned dancer Alexander Kalinin. The dancers were a hit among the students whose cheers of enthusiasm echoed throughout the auditorium as the dancers seemed to fly across the stage.

Valencia Valley Elementary School student, Taylor Sanders, 10, said he was glad to have the chance to see the performance. “It was the best show I’ve ever seen,” said Sanders. “The Russian dancers did a really great job and it was awesome to see it.” Fellow student, Tiger Wish, 9, agreed.
