On Sunday locals are invited to get into the Christmas spirit with a sugar plum fairy and lots of mice at the Auburn Arts Association's presentation of "The Nutcracker."
The eighth annual performance of the ballet will begin at 2 p.m. at the Opelika Center for Performing Arts.Â

"It's a classic, and it's a very simple tale about a little girl who receives a nutcracker doll from her uncle," said Cindy Davino, artistic director of Auburn Ballet and an Alabama Dance Council Board of Directors member.

"It's the one ballet you are almost guaranteed to have an audience for. People recognize the music, and it's a holiday thing."
